Getting Started as a Service Provider

Becoming a service provider starts with a plan to deliver services that meet a persistent process demand for a well-defined industry.

The Birthplace of the Service Provider
Service providers are born in two basic ways:

  • morphing from some other state of being (such as a software developer, computer manufacturer, a consultant or an orphaned department of an enterprise) or
  • de novo from a business plan, venture capital and a management team

Risk Management for Early Stage Service Providers
As provisioning models, the de novo model involves greater risk for the founders. In either event, getting started requires appropriate planning and execution with suitable risk planning and management. Key issues are security, privacy, data protection and regulation.
